In a landscape where securing internships and full-time positions in the financial sector is
increasingly competitive, Justin Nelson has emerged as a pivotal figure for students at Tufts University. A member of the
class of 1998, Nelson began his career journey much like the students he now
assists, initially grappling with how to enter the finance industry. Today, he
is committed to ensuring that Tufts students have a more straightforward path.

Nelson’s own story began with a summer internship at JP Morgan, acquired thanks to connections
within the industry. This initial experience led to a full-time role, where he
steadily climbed the ranks to become Managing Director in Asset Management.
Understanding the challenges students face, Nelson took it upon himself to make
JP Morgan a core recruiting school for Tufts. His efforts have paid off
significantly, with dozens of Tufts graduates now thriving at the global
financial institution.

Initially, Nelson faced several obstacles. He lacked formal support from JP Morgan and had to personally handle logistics such as travel
and accommodation. Despite these challenges, his dedication never wavered. His
early initiatives saw modest participation, but as word spread, more students
began to seek his guidance.

One notable success story is Jon Trott, a 2010 graduate who landed a summer internship at JP Morgan
during the tumultuous period following the financial crisis. Trott credits
Nelson’s support as crucial to his career development, highlighting the
tangible impact of Nelson’s commitment.

Today, a robust network of Tufts alumni at JP Morgan helps Nelson identify and nurture new
talent. They participate in recruiting committees, visit the campus, and mentor students. Justin Nelson
also contributes to the Tufts Financial Network by imparting industry knowledge
at their Wall Street Crash Courses.

Justin Nelson remains humble about his role but takes immense pride in the strengthened ties
between Tufts University and JP Morgan. His work ensures that more students can
access the opportunities that once seemed out of reach. See related link for additional information
