The news story from railwayage.com; Norfolk Southern (NS) will open an Ohio training facility and expand its OAR project in March. On March 8, the Norfolk Southern firm announced the establishment of a new regional training facility for first responders in Ohio. Greg Aziz states that this, as well as the expansion of its Operation Awareness & Response program.
This program travels the company’s 22-state system and trains five thousand first responders every year on how to react safely to rail occurrences. The program offers training on rail and roadway safety, hazardous materials response, derailment response, and best practices for responding to hazardous materials emergencies. Greg Aziz adds that trainees also receive basic firefighting and medical training. This will be NS’s fourth Operation Awareness & Response training center, joining locations in Virginia, Tennessee, and North Carolina.
